Manhattan, KS, United States (AHN) – Kansas State’s junior guard wants people to notice more than his achievements on the court. Go ahead, and look closer-Jacob Pullen encourages people to notice his hip colored coordinated sneakers.
The Wildcats scoring leader has over 80 pairs of sneakers tucked in his apartment, as first reported in a story on kansas.com.
Before every game Pullen goes through his designer shoes and matches it to his uniform before heading to the arena. Most players have to settle for standard uniforms given by their coaches.
Standard?
There’s nothing ordinary about this collection or Pullen.
“I need to know what jersey we’re wearing,” Pullen said. “If we’re wearing white jerseys, I’m wearing black shoes. If we’re wearing dark jerseys, I’m wearing white shoes. I learned a long time ago you can’t wear the same color. They blend in. I can’t have that. I want my shoes to stand out.”
Pullen is standing out on court, posting 18-plus point per game this season for the Wildcats.
During his free time, he directs his focus on sneaker release dates, researching the Internet and what the latest fads are on the NBA court.
A dozen of retro Air Jordans and Nike kickers are lined against the wall in the apartment.
Everywhere the eyes look there are sneakers, sneakers, and more, you guessed it-sneakers. Shoes that Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant wore for the holidays were also in the massive collection.
Purple, red, black, green, you name it- Pullen’s got it in his closet adjacent to his kitchen.
But it’s more than a collection; if his chosen pair of shoes is not giving him an edge on the court- switch it up.
“If I feel like I’m not playing good in a pair of shoes, I’ll switch them,” said Pullen. “If I haven’t made enough shots, if we’re losing or I feel like we’re playing bad, I’ll switch shoes. I’ve done it a few times this year.”
The junior has even more sneakers at a prior ‘longtime stop’.
“I don’t have that many here,” Pullen joked. “It’s only about 80. The rest are at my mom’s house.”
