Buffalo, NY, United States (AHN) – Thomas Vanek broke a second-period tie, and Buffalo’s Ryan Miller outdueled Dallas’ Marty Turco in the Sabres 5-3 win over the Stars on Wednesday.

The Stars (29-25-12) lost for the fifth-straight time to the Sabres, and squandered an opportunity to make up ground in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Dallas still trails ninth-place Detroit by four points, and eighth-place Calgary by five.

Rookie Jamie Benn led the Stars with a goal and assist, while Turco finished with 38 saves in Dallas’ fourth loss in the last five games.
