Lakeland, FL, United States (AHN) – Detroit Tigers’ recent acquisition Johnny Damon sat out what could have been his first matchup with his old team, the New York Yankees, Wednesday due to turf toe in his left big toe.

Damon, 36, considered as the final piece of Major League Baseball’s offseason puzzle, signed a one year-deal with the Tigers last month.

According to the two-time World Series champion, he stubbed said toe while working out at home Monday.

The injury is not believed to be serious and Damon, who is currently on the Tigers’ travel roster, will probably play Thursday when they face the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla.

Also missing Wednesday’s game was Magglio Ordonez, who tweaked his muscle behind his left knee.

He could be back for Friday’s home tilt against the Phils.

Meanwhile, Tigers reliever Bobby Seay, who has been dealing with a shoulder problem, registered Wednesday his first relatively pain-free throwing session this spring.

The left-hander is expected to strengthen the affected arm before being allowed to take the mound.

The Yankees went on to win Wednesday’s contest, 9-8.
