Columbus, OH, United States (AHN) – A suspect involved in an early-morning shooting on the Ohio State University campus has been taken into custody, according to authorities.

OSU officials said no students were involved in the shooting which occurred Tuesday at approximately 3:30 a.m. EST on school grounds, one person – a university employee – was killed and two other people were taken to Ohio State University Medical Center.  Names of the victims or suspect have not been released.

The shooting took place at Tuttle Park Place, near Ohio Stadium.  Students were alerted of the incident via e-mail, officials stated.

Classes and regular school operations will go on as scheduled, campus officials said.

The shooting comes on the heels of the school alerting students of two alleged sexual assaults and one attempted sexual assault earlier this month, the school newspaper The Lantern reported.

The campus newspaper published an article recently questioning just how useful and effective the e-mail alerts to students about crimes on campus were.

According to campus authorities, just over 2,500 students choose to receive the e-mail on a campus of more than 50,000. School officials plan to meet later in the week to determine if changes need to be made to the alert system.
