Kansas City, MO, United States (AHN) – The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their backfield after signing free agent running back Thomas Jones, the team announced Tuesday.
The terms of the contract were not disclosed but reports indicate that the deal is for two years and is worth about $5 million.
After three seasons, Jones, 31, was released by the New York Jets last week after both sides reportedly failed to reach a common ground with regard to the restructuring of his contract.
The 10-year veteran is coming off a season in which he set career highs in rushing for 1,402 yards and registering 14 touchdowns, a franchise mark.
In 2008, he established the record with 13 scores.
Jones was acquired by the Jets from Chicago in 2007 after spending three years with the Bears.
He helped the Jets reach the AFC Championship Game against Indianapolis.
Jones, who has recorded more than 1,100 rushing yards in each of the past five years, is expected to compliment third-year running back Jamaal Charles in the Chiefs backfield.
