Jacksonville, FL, United States (AHN) – The Jacksonville Jaguars upgraded their defensive lineup by signing defensive end/linebacker Aaron Kampman Sunday. Kampman, 30, will give the Jaguars a reliable puss rusher, after the team recorded an NFL-worst 14 sacks in 16 games (the fifth lowest output all-time).
Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowler, produced 458 tackles and 54 sacks in eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
In 2009, he struggled to find early success under defensive coordinator Dom Capers’ 3-4 defense.
Capers converted Kampman to an outside linebacker, recording 42 tackles and a career-low 3.5 sacks.
In November, Kampman suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, which ultimately ended his eight-year stint at Green Bay.
Kampman also racked up 13 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 112 games with the Green Bay Packers. Kampman earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection honors in 2006 and 2007.
The Jaguars are expected to announce Kampman along with the contract’s terms in the coming days.
