Dallas, TX, United States (AHN) – The Dallas Cowboys gave restricted free agent wide receiver Miles Austin a tender offer of $3.168 million Thursday, insuring that any team that signs him would give up first and third round draft picks.

Although team owner Jerry Jones offered the one-year, $3.168 million contract, he said he would increase the length and amount of the contract, it was reported. Austin is also expected to join the team.

Jones said he wanted to keep Austin long-term before declining a franchise tag on the Pro Bowler in February.

The franchise tag would have cost Dallas $9.5 million.

Austin caught 81 passes for 1,320 yards with 11 touchdowns for Dallas last season, and led the NFC with 1,320 receiving yards.

Austin reportedly said in February that he was not worried about his contract, indicating that his agent would take care of any issues that would arise.
