Clearwater, FL, United States (AHN) – Roy Halladay, who was traded from Toronto to Philadelphia in December, threw over two hitless innings in his first start in a Phillies uniform Thursday against the New York Yankees in the Grapefruit League opener.

Philadelphia’s new ace threw 24 pitches, struck out three and did not allow a hit against the visiting Yankees at Bright House Field.

In two innings, the 2003 AL Cy Young award recipient faced seven batters, with only one reaching base due to an error.

Halladay, a six-time All-Star selection, was supposed to pitch between 40 and 45 pitches, but departed for Kyle Kendrick.

The 32-year-old right-hander then retreated to the Phillies’ bullpen during the top of the third inning and completed his quota of pitches.

The Phillies went on to take Thursday’s game, a World Series rematch on a much smaller scale, 3-2.
