Philadelphia, PA, United States (AHN) – Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson has missed four games while tending to his sick daughter and will not be returning for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.
Iverson, 34, inked a one-year contract to re-join the Sixers in December, but will not return after withdrawing just before the All Star break.
He missed five games before the All-Star break to deal with the health issues of the same four-year-old daughter, Messiah.
The 11-time All-Star reportedly made the decision in order to avoid becoming a distraction to the Sixers and his teammates.
This year, Iverson has played 25 contests for Philadelphia, averaging 13.9 points, way below his career output of 26.7 points per contests
Despite his sub-par performance, Iverson received the nod from fans to start for the Eastern Conference in the 2010 All-Star Game.
He also missed that mid-season spectacle in Dallas as he tended to his sick daughter.
After being selected first overall in the 1996 draft by Philadelphia, Iverson spent the first 10 season of his 14-year NBA career with the Sixers.
He was later traded to the Denver Nuggets in December 2006.
Iverson was recognized with the NBA MVP in 2001 after leading the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals the same season.
