Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Bret Michaels is not apologizing for his duet with Miley Cyrus. When the track “Nothin’ to Lose” hit the Internet last week, listeners harshly criticized the song for being too raunchy and edgy for the 17-year-old Disney star, prompting the Poison rocker to respond.

The song features the 46-year-old musician and Cyrus in a duet about lovers. The lyrics include adult phrases such as: “We both know better than this / Still we can’t resist / Slowly get undressed / Won’t you fall down on me / So close I can feel you breathe.”

Michaels, who is a father to 9-year-old Raine and 4-year-old Jorja, said he got 75 text messages about the scandal that was brought by the song.

He told Usmagazine.com, “It was blown out of proportion,” explaining that he wrote the song a couple of years ago and recorded it alone.

Cyrus, whose wholesome image has already taken a severe beating in the press, wanted to remake his classic “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” for her next album, but when Michaels played “Nothin’ to Lose,” she immediately wanted to record it.

While Michaels admitted he never asked the younger singer to look at the lyrical content of the song, he said that “the part where it says she slowly gets undressed, Miley says, ‘Yeah she does.’ It has no reference to her and I. It’s not even a duet.”

He added to the website, “As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about. I’m a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song.”

“Nothin’ to Lose,” now available in stores, will also appear on his solo album “Custom Built” in May.
