Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Dodgers’ Manny Ramirez reportedly indicated on the day he reported to spring training that 2010 could be his final season in L.A.
Speaking with reporters at spring training, Ramirez, who turns 38 in May, hinted at the possibility of either retiring or opting to return for what would be a 19th year in the majors
Ramirez indicated that he might return to the American League as a designated hitter due to his defensive limitations in left field.
But the 12-time All-Star did not confirm either option.
Speculation regarding Ramirez’s desire to return to the AL as a DH stemmed from leg issues as a result from playing the outfield.
With his late-season fade, the Dodgers are reportedly mulling in giving Ramirez more rest to keep him fresher this year.
In 2009, the nine-time Silver Slugger, started with a diminished spring training after a lengthy free agency period, but still managed to hit .372 in April.
He was then handed a 50-game drug suspension in May.
He then went into a September slump after hitting .347 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in his first 16 tilts after returning from suspension.
After getting drilled on the wrist by a Homer Bailey fastball, Ramirez struggled for the remainder of the season.
Ramirez finished the regular season, hitting .290 with 19 homers and 63 RBIs in over 104 games.
In the playoffs, he batted .281 with one home run and four RBI in eight games.
