Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, United States (AHN) – Golf superstar Tiger Woods appeared humble, contrite and even a bit sad as he apologized publicly to fans for the first time Friday before a small gathering of supporters and assembled media in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
“I have let you down. I have let down my fans,” Woods said, speaking for the first time since news about his extramarital affairs became public. “Every one of you has good reason to be critical of me. I want to say to each one of you directly . . . I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible selfish behavior.”
Woods spoke at TPC Sawgrass clubhouse, on a day where his fellow golfers are competing in match play, drawing some criticism for the timing of his statement.
Accenture, sponsor of the event, dropped Woods as a spokesman for the company after his affairs became public.
Woods did not specify when he would make a return to the links, indicating he is in treatment and will utilize his Buddhist faith to address his “irresponsible behavior”.
“Starting tomorrow I will leave for more treatment and more therapy,” he added.
