New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Tiger Woods maintained his status as the top endorser in sports, as the golfer generated $64 million from sponsorship deals in 2009, a major financial magazine reported Thursday.
Woods, the World’s No.1 golfer, once again dominated the Second Forbes Fab 40, topping sports figures like soccer star David Beckham, tennis elites Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova and NBA legend Michael Jordan.
Beckham, the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, earned $18 million from numerous endorsement deals.
Woods also topped the PGA Tour money list last season, making him arguably the richest sportsman in history in going over the $1 billion mark according to some estimates.
However, after word of his infidelity broke out, major sponsors like AT&T and Accenture ended their endorsement ties with Woods.
With these developments, Tiger’s future earning capacity could be diminished.
Forbes also announced English soccer Club Manchester United as the most valuable team brand, earning $351 million.
World Series Champion New York Yankees landed number four on the list with $217 million.
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers-Arizona Cardinals matchup at Super Bowl XLIII was hailed the richest sporting event, generating $336 million.
