CLEARFIELD – Auditions for the musical SEUSSICAL will be held at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre, 112 E. Locust Street, Clearfield from 6 – 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 5 – 6. Those who audition must only attend one of the two dates.
“Auditioners are encouraged to bring a prepared song with sheet music,” Susan Loffredi, managing director, said in a press release issued by CAST. She said that an accompanist will be available.
Loffredi also said that those who wish to bring an accompaniment track on cassette or compact disc can do so. But she said that vocals should not be on the recordings.
She also asked that the auditioners bring a list of time and date conflicts from Jan. 5 through the end of the show’s run, which is March 14, 2009.
Loffredi said that in addition to the vocal audition, there will be another for a short dance. She said that a simple, short combination will be taught at auditions. She said that some may be asked to stay and read from scri pt.
“No experience is necessary,” she said, adding that first time auditioners are always welcome to join the familiar faces in show participation.
The production will open March 5, and rehearsals are set to begin on Monday, Jan.
According to the press release, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, which lovingly brings to life all of the favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Amazing Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville. The classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by young Jojo, a “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks.”
Loffredi said that she believes the audiences will marvel at how relevant and profound
Seuss’ subtle themes are as each part of the story unfolds. She said the musical will also appeal to all ages.
She said the score emerges as a Seussian mix of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk.
“It is a show that encompasses every age group and can have a wide age range of cast members,” Loffredi said. She said that the show is unique, as it has a wide range of characters from people to animals to “Whos.”
She added, “We are literally casting all ages from eight years on up to adults. While it’s based on Children’s books, it’s definitely a show for all ages – both in cast members and audience appeal.”
According to Loffredi, the show will not only offer great music, but also a very literary side. She said it has a very precise dialogue that is important to the core of the show.
Seussical will be the first production of the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre’s 2009 sub scri ption season and will be presented March 5, 6,7; 12, 13, 14 2009 at the CAST Building 112 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
