CLEARFIELD – State Sen. Joe Scarnati kicked-off the 2008 Heroes for the American Red Cross Campaign today at the Clearfield-Jefferson Chapter in Clearfield. The Senator has accepted the role of Chair for the 2008 Heroes Campaign. Alan Walker presented his personal check of $ 1,000.00 to jump start the campaign.
The campaign Co-Chairs are Mona Park for Jefferson County and Rod Buck for Clearfield County. Clearfield County Heroes recruiters are Cathy Greenland, Judy Nisewonger, Monica Smith, Marianne Herres, Linda Pollock and Florence Lutz. Jefferson County recruiters are Vickie Mason, Michelle Oakes, Carmen Harrington-Wymer and Lurie Baughman.
The campaign is a grassroots fundraiser in which local business people, school groups, church groups, civic clubs and individuals pledge to raise $1000 through any legal means they choose. The American Red Cross hopes to raise $36,000 by May 15, which will directly support the Red Cross programs and services in Clearfield and Jefferson counties.
While attention has been drawn this past year to the high-profile tragedies ensuing nationally and abroad, amazing achievements were also taking place in our own backyard. More than 450 people – victims of local disasters such as house fires, floods, and storms were given shelter, food, comfort, care and mental health counseling. And more than 5600 individuals have been trained in CPR, first aid, and AED training and over 60 emergency messages were delivered to members of our armed forces.
To become a HERO for the American Red Cross, you or your organization agrees to raise a minimum of $1,000 through any legal means you choose. Or give a direct gift of $1000 to the chapter. Red Cross Super Heroes raise or commit a minimum of $5,000.
Remember, as a hero you are not only making a financial commitment but you are making a life-saving commitment to the people in your community.
