FRANKLIN— Republican Congressional candidate Derek Walker pledged his support to those who have served in the armed forces at a forum held with members of the Venango County Veterans Coalition.
“The Fifth Congressional District is home to over 60,000 veterans, and as your next Congressman, I am committed to honoring our men and women in uniform, past and present. America must never forget those who have fought so that we may be free,” said Walker.
As a member of Congress Walker said that he will fight to keep social security solvent so that our senior citizens and veterans receive every penny in benefits they have earned. He would also work to extend eligibility for veterans programs and increase funding for veterans with disabilities and their surviving spouses.
Walker also stated that the federal government must make additional investments to improve, renovate, replace, update and establish veteran patient care facilities.
Walker also pledged to support our troops and win the war on terror. He said that the United States must maintain a presence in Iraq and that pulling out our troops before the country is fully stabilized would likely empower radical Islamic terrorist organizations.
“Regardless of what one believes about the decision to go into Iraq, we must listen to our military leaders on the ground and always remain committed to supporting our troops.” Walker said.
Walker said that as a Congressman he would travel to Iraq and Afghanistan to be sure our troops have the necessary equipment to win the war. He also vowed to protect the jobs and create new opportunities for our National Guard Reservists and military personnel when they return from active duty to the work site.
Walker said he believes he has what it takes to be an effective Congressman, and would be honored to represent the Fifth Congressional District in Washington D.C..
