CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield, Elk, Cameron and Jefferson Counties Central Labor Council will host a “Meet the Candidates Night” for the Democratic candidates for the 5th Congressional District Seat currently held by Representative John Peterson. Peterson has announced his retirement at the end of this term. The event will take place April 3, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the IBEW Local # 5 Training Center, 1400 Leonard Street, Clearfield.
There are three candidates running on the Democratic ticket for the primary; Mark McCracken of Clearfield, Bill Cahir of Bellefonte, and Rick Villello of Lock Haven. All three candidates have indicated they plan to attend the event and welcome the opportunity to present their views on issues that impact union members and their families.
According to Jeff Miller, CECJ Central Labor Council President, “The mission of the Central Labor Council is to promote and support the area’s working families by advocating for family sustaining wages and benefits and safer working conditions for all employees. An important part of this is to provide opportunities such as this one where the public can meet the candidates for themselves in order to make informed decisions. Often an event like this is the only time local working family members get the chance to meet the candidates.”
Union members and their families are encouraged to attend. The event will be open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
