CLEARFIELD – In order to recoup expenses, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors discussed the possibility of charging fees to non-profit groups for the use of building facilities at Monday night’s committee meeting.
The board had requested information about the costs to the district during an event. Rick Bunning, director of buildings and grounds, monitored supplies during a recent concert and reported approximately $100 worth of consumables were used.
Bunning noted in his feedback the cost didn’t take into account the extra water and electric costs as well as the extra work for the on-duty custodian.
Business Manager, Jason Barnett said the administration has proposed a fee be charged, as the district experiences a cost during times when buildings are used.
“They would like the board to consider charging fees to non-profit groups, who charge admission and are located in the district,” he said.
He said it would also include non-profit groups, who are located outside the district and do or do not charge event admission.
Barnett said, according to the proposal, the non-profit groups would pay a fee that is one half the amount charged to for-profit groups in the district.
“What are other school districts doing?” Dave Glass, board vice president, asked.
Barnett said it’s common to charge fees. “The board needs to determine the appropriate charge, as well as if non-profit groups, who are located in the district without admission costs, should be charged a flat rate to cover district expenses.”
He also noted all building use requests, such as for the stadium, would be forwarded to Bunning.
“He’ll determine whether or not additional custodial help will be needed,” Barnett said. “The cost of such help would be the responsibility of the group using the facility.”
