DuBois Area School District to Examine Tweaking Kindergarten Enrollment

DUBOIS – The DuBois Area School District Board of Directors are exploring a change to the age requirements for kindergarten registration.

Board Chairman Louis Russell said the issue had been brought up by some kindergarten and first grade teachers in the district. According to Russell, these instructors would like to see the cut-off point pushed back.

The current policy states that a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if they have reached the age of 5 on or before the first day of September.

Russell formed a committee to explore the issue.

Board member Beverly Kurtz, who was placed on that committee, added her thoughts to the issue.

Kurtz said that she wants the board to make a decision not solely based on their opinions.

Any such change would affect the 2009-2010 school year.
