DUBOIS – It will be 90 to 120 days before the new air service carrier takes up residence at the DuBois Regional Airport.
The news comes from DuBois Regional Airport Authority Manager Bob Shaffer, who said that is the best time estimate he could give based on information he has gathered.
Mesa Air currently serves the airport under Air Midwest, franchisee of U.S. Airways. Mesa announced their intent to stop service at DuBois and four other smaller airports earlier this year. Mesa will continue to provide air service until the new carrier can begin operations.
Gulfstream International will likely begin service as a franchisee of U.S. Airways sometime after Jan.1, and Shaffer said he is pleased with the level of service Gulfstream plans to provide.
Gulfstream acquired planes last week, and work will soon begin to refurbish them and set up crews for DuBois.
“It’s going to be first of the year, I think, before we see them up as Gulfstream,” Shaffer said during Friday’s meeting of the Clearfield-Jefferson Counties Joint Airport Authority.
Gulfstream also plans to continue use of the maintenance facility at the DuBois airport, likely good news for the 25 employees there now.
Shaffer said he has high hopes for the sale of jet fuel and an increase in the number of landings.
