Bradford Elementary Adds Second Second-Grade Class

CLEARFIELD – Bradford Elementary will add another second-grade class next month.

The Clearfield Area School District’s Board of Directors learned that the second-grade class in session now has 26 students, above the district’s average size for classes in the grade.

The directors unanimously voted in favor of adding the second second-grade class at Bradford Monday.

For now a day-to-day substitute teacher has been added at the school to ensure small class sizes, but the action will likely be made official with a permanent teacher in October.

In the rest of the district: Girard-Goshen has 19 students in one second-grade class; Centre has 25 students in two second-grade classes; and Clearfield Elementary has 74 second-grade students in four classes.

Funds are available to create the second class through Title II Class Size Reduction funds.

Th other option available to the board was to hire a classroom assistant to work with students individually and in small groups.
