CLEARFIELD – A Levittown man accused of beating a man and crusing his sinus cavity waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday.
Michael DeBlasio, 25, is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and stalking. A charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn by the commonwealth. However if DeBlasio does not enter into a plea agreement the aggravated assault charge will be added back on.
According to court records police responded to a South Second Street address on Sept. 13. They were led to an apartment where they found a local man with a bruised face and bruised eye as wel as severe swelling. The man was eventually airlifted to Altoona for treatment of his injuries.
Police spoke to a witness who said that he and the alleged victim were outside when DeBlasio and another man came to the apartment. They eventually went inside. The man said that DeBlasio seemed intoxicated and agitated. The witness said that he asked DeBlasio to sit down and that is when he allegedly attacked the alleged victim.
Police went outside the apartment and followed a trail of blood drops form South Second Street down Cherry Street, Healy Avenue and into the rear of Grice’s parking lot. The blood trail ran dry there.
In the report police stated that prior to arriving on-scene they were stopped at by another vehicle along East Cherry Street. The driver alerted them to a fight on near the intersection of South Second and Cherry Streets. The driver told them that one man fled on foot while the other fled in a vehicle. Police went to the scene and found a wallet.
Officers then went to the address of the wallet’s owner on While there they noticed another man, DeBlasio. DeBlasio then asked officers if the guy he got into a fight with was alright.
Police took DeBlasio into custody at that point. He told police that he met the alleged vicitm at Aunt Mary’s Place. They talked. He said that the details became fuzzy then. he was at the alleged victim’s when he said the man got upset for some reason and tried to force him out of his residence. DeBlasio fought back, saying that he put the man into a choke hold before taking him down and puncing him repeatedly.
The affidavit of probable cause states that the alleged victim suffered a crushed sinus cavity and that he had a pending surgery.
DeBlasio is free on bail.
