CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners gave approval to sign an agreement that will begin the process of adding parking at the Clearfield County Jail.
The $4,500 contract with Hughes Engineering of Clearfield was tabled from the last commissioners’ meeting, but commissioners realized the need to start on the project soon.
“If we’re into the rainy season, we’re going to be right back into the mess that we had out there this spring,” Clearfield County Commissioner Chairman Rex Read said.
Another issue is that asphalt is usually not manufactured after November and through the winter.
If everything goes as planned, the project will go out for bids in no less than six weeks.
Parking at the jail has been at a premium for some time with vehicles parking along the lot’s edge. Some have even become stuck in snow or mud.
The total project will be completed on the top of the hill at the edge of the current parking lot for a cost of about $95,000 to $100,000.
