PHILIPSBURG – Emily Gette-Doyle, program manager at the Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership whose duties include managing the Philipsburg Main Street Program, recently attended the Pennsylvania Downtown Center’s “Main Street Academy” at Temple University in Harrisburg, PA.
The Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation is a member of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the revitalization of the Commonwealth’s Core or traditional communities. The PDC provides outreach, technical assistance and educational services primarily utilizing the National Main Street’s Four Point Approach to communities interested in the revitalization of their central business districts and surrounding residential neighborhoods. The PDC is also a strong advocate for downtown and neighborhood initiatives in the Commonwealth and is active in many strategic partnerships which promote revitalization and reinvestment in the Commonwealth’s “core communities.”
The training Ms. Gette-Doyle received is the second of four centered on the four points of Main Street. This session covered topics on Organization including: the Basic Organization Committee, Governance Issues, Communicating with Your Community, Volunteer Development, Budget and Fundraising, and an Evolving Organizational Model.. Over the next year she will be trained in the other two points: Design, and Promotion. She received training on Economic Restructuring in April 2007.
“The PDC always provides a wealth of knowledge; they are an invaluable tool in revitalization,” Ms. Gette-Doyle said. “I will be taking the knowledge I have gained back to the Main Street Committees for use in the Philipsburg community.”
