Johnstown Soldier Killed in Iraq

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Defense announced the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. One of the men was from Johnstown.

Sgt. 1st Class Raymond R. Buchan, 33, of Johnstown, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Also killed was Staff Sgt. Michael L. Ruoff Jr., 31, of Yosemite, Calif. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

They died Sunday in Ta’meem, Iraq, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire.
