Williamsport — The Clearfield Babe Ruth 13-year old all-star team took the hard road to Sunday\’s championship round by losing their opening game and then winning the consolation bracket.
Saturday\’s first elimination game had the Clearfielders facing off against the team from Potter/McKean, first round losers to host West End. Twenty-six hits and thirty runs later, the team from Clearfield managed to advance by a final score of 17-13.
The winning pitcher for Clearfield was Maverick Vanderburgh, with Justin Knepp notching the save. Leading the hit barrage was Mike Swoope, who had four hits, two of which were doubles.

The second game game brought about a rematch with the State College squad that had beaten Clearfield in the opening game, 4-1. State College again scored 4 runs, but it wasn\’t enough, as Clearfield plated 7 for the win.
Derrick Snyder was the winning pitcher for the Babe Ruth all-stars as they now advance to Sunday\’s championship game against West End at 1:00 PM. Clearfield would have to win twice in the double-elimination tourney to claim the District 8 championship. Either way, Clearfield has earned a return trip to Williamsport for the state championships in July.
