CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area Board of School Directors approved the 2007-2008 budget on Monday night.
The general fund budget for that period is set at $31,539,095. The athletic budget for that period is set at $175,000, and the cafeteria budget is set at $1,241,272.
The millage is set at 83.84 mills, earned income tax is set at once percent, the real estate transfer rate is one percent and the occupational privilege tax is $10.
According to the budget, significant items in revenue are a real estate tax increase of 3.84 mills, and interest earnings increase due to improved cash balance in the amount of $125, among other items.
One item that was cut from the coming school year’s budget are the school resource officers in the Clearfield Area Middle School and the Clearfield Area High School. That action saved the school district nearly $95,000 according Jason Barnett, business administrator. Barnett added that money was put into the capitol project funds.
John Law, high school principal, said he would miss Jim Glass, resource officer at the high school.
“I’ve had a great relationship with Jim Glass,” said Law. “We’ve helped the community with cases that needed solved.”
Law said that Glass offered more than just enforcement, but also discussed legal issues and driver’s education with students. Law said that students told Glass things that they would not tell him.
“He just kept the lid on everything,” said Law. “He was always professional.”
The budget passed on a vote of seven to one. Board member Jeffrey Carns voted no. Dr. Tina Serafini said she was not happy with the budget, but voted yes. Sandy Sloppy was absent.
