CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Sheriff Chester Hawkins appeared at Tuesday’s meeting of the Clearfield County Salary Board with requests for the board to create various positions.
Hawkins discussed with the board the creation a temporary security guard position to run during a current guard’s leave of absence, a part-time clerk/typist in the sheriff’s office, and the creation of an as-needed special deputy or deputies for inmate transports.
Hawkins told the board that he has no more money in his budget for the positions. He said that he has moved some money out of line-item budget issues for the clerk/typist position. The board suggested he meet with Controller’s office to figure the situation out.
Rex Read, salary board member and county commissioner asked Hawkins if he transported prisoners. Hawkins said that he has been to Albion, home of a state correctional institution, but that he has not transported prisoners.
Hawkins has access to a sheriff’s vehicle at all times.
Mike Lytle, salary board member and county commissioner asked Hawkins if constables could transport prisoners. Hawkins replied only on a judge’s order.
No decisions were made regarding any of Hawkins requests as no motion was asked for.
