RUSH TOWNSHIP – Two teenage girls were injured in an ATV accident on Sunday afternoon according to Philipsburg-based state police.
A 16-year-old West Decatur girl was operating the ATV and a 15-year-old Lanse girl was her passenger. They were traveling at a high rate of speed on Coaldale Road and attempted to negotiate a left turn onto Lochlomond Road but were unable to. The ATV traveled off the north edge of Lochlomond Road and across a grassy area before striking a tree.
The Lanse girl was thrown from the ATV and the West Decatur girl struck the tree and was lying on the ATV when it came to rest.
The West Decatur girl was airlifted from the scene to Altoona Regional for serious injuries. She was reportedly not wearing a helmet. The Lanse girl was transported to Clearfield Hospital for serious injuries. She was reportedly not wearing a helmet either.
The investigation is ongoing.
