CLEARFIELD – The jury in the re-trial of Andrew Callahan is delberating on its verdict.
The jury was given instructions by Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman and was sent to the jury room to make a decision at 2:20 p.m.
The jury will decide whether Callahan, now 25, killed Micah Pollock on Nov. 5, 1997, when Callahan was 16 and Pollock was 15. Callahan was once convicted of first-degree murder in the case, but that verdict was overturned by a higher court.
Callahan faces the charges of first-degree murder, third-degree murder, aggravated assault and abuse of a corpse.
During the trial, the jury heard testimony that the two boys went to hunt for grouse after going to school at Glendale on Nov. 5, 1997. Callahan has admitted to shooting Pollock in the back with a shotgun, but he has contended that he did so unintentionally. Callahan’s attorneys also said he was under the influence of mescaline, a hallucinogen, and marijuana at the time of the shooting.
GantDaily will post the verdict as soon as possible after the jury reaches its decision.
