DUBOIS—-After being shutout Wednesday by Punxsutawney, the Curwensville Lady Tide did the same to DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) Thursday afternoon 4-0 to up their record to 10-2. These two teams are back at it again this coming Monday afternoon, at Curwensville, starting at 4:15.
Coach Allen Leigey’s Lady Tide only had two hits against Central Catholic hurler Abbie Heigel but made the most of them as they were coupled with three walks. Those two hits didn’t come until the top of the seventh. Only outfielders Samantha Haney and Shannon McDonald had hits, both singles, for the Lady Tide who scored three times in the seventh to break open the game. The Tide scored one in the fourth inning, which actually turned out to be the game winner.
Curwensville’s Holly Lansberry once again took the mound and went the distance for the win. Lansberry scattered five DCC hits, striking out a dozen and walking none in picking up her tenth win of the year. Heigel, as mentioned earlier, only gave up two hits, also struck out twelve, but did have those three walks.
Coach Leigey was glad to be back in action after a tough loss at Punxsy the day before, “It was very special to get a win right away after the tough one yesterday (Wednesday) against Punxsutawney.” Leigey then added, “Our bats did look tired today though. That may have been because we have played three days in a row. But we did what we had to do to get the win and for that I give this team credit for bouncing back today.”
The Lady Tide have now outscored their opponents by an amazing 88-10 margin. In their 10 wins Curwensville has 8 shutouts.
