BROOKVILLE—-After losing Monday in a controversial game to Brockway the Lady Tide were all business as they traveled to Brookville Tuesday afternoon. The Curwensville squad was more than ready to play the second they stepped off the bus. Sophomore pitcher Holly Lansberry threw a one hit shutout as the Lady Tide blanked the home town Lady Raiders 5-0. The victory gave Lansberry and the Tide identical 7-1 records so far in 2007.
Lansberry was absolutely dominating, coming back from a tough loss the day before in Brockway. The Tide ace retired the last 18 batters she faced after Carla Cook got a two out single in the first for Brookville. Cook attempted to steal second on the first pitch after her base hit and was promptly gunned down by catcher Dana Johnson. Lansberry finished the afternoon with 13 strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter in facing the minimum of 21 hitters.
Dani Struble and Shannon McDonald each drove in two runs for Curwensville who actually didn’t score until the fifth inning against Brookville’s Leah Dietrich. Struble, McDonald, Lansberry and Dana Johnson all had two hits. Picking up doubles for the Tide were Johnson with 2, while McDonald, Kristi Newpher and Ashley Demchak all had one.
A very happy head coach Allen Leigey said afterwards, “ I told the girls this was a great win considering how we lost on Monday. We were ready to play and I was so happy to see them bounce back after the Brockway game. It was very business like for us today and I hope we can keep it going.”
Going into today’s game Lansberry and freshman outfielder Tess Bloom were batting .583. McDonald and Struble each had 10 RBI’s. Lansberry and McDonald also were tied with five extra base hits each.
The Tide will host Ridgway this afternoon starting at 4:15.
