ST. MARY’S—-And the beat goes on! The Curwensville Lady Tide softball team continued their top notch pitching, hitting and fielding as they carved up St. Mary’s 11-0 Friday afternoon. With the road victory the Tide move to 5-0 on the season and have now outscored their opponents 58-1. Curwensville also has three straight shutouts and four in the five games played so far. St. Mary’s drops to 0-3 on the year.
Coach Allen Leigey’s squad pounded out 14 hits as six Lady Tide each had two hits. Holly Lansberry, Dani Struble, Ashley Demchak, Shannon McDonald, Kristi Newpher and Tess Bloom all upped their batting averages in smacking out two hits. One of Demchak’s hits was a two run second inning home run giving her three RBI’s on the day. Struble and Dana Johnson each had a double in the five inning rout. Johnson also drove in two runs for Curwensville who literally took the game away from St. Mary’s with a five run first inning.
Lansberry picked up her fifth win of the season in tossing a three hit shutout. The sophomore struck out 11 in the shortened game.
Coach Leigey was once again very pleased, saying, “We just played another solid game. When you play error free ball and score five first inning runs it just makes it easier the whole way around.” The Tide also scored two runs each in the second, third and fifth innings to earn the 10 run rule victory.
Curwensville doesn’t get much of a rest as they take on rival Clearfield today at 11 am on their home field. The game was originally scheduled for March 23. The Lady Bisons were 1-1 going into Friday afternoon’s game versus Ridgway.
