DUBOIS -Traffic safety experts and medical authorities agree that almost everyone begins to experience some marked physical changes around age 55-and those changes affect the way we drive. The nation’s first comprehensive driver retraining classroom course designed specifically to help drivers age 55 and over is now available in this community. It’s called AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by the American Association of Retired Persons.
Overcoming the effect of aging on driving skills, applying the basic rules of the road, and preventing accidents are among the topics stressed in the course. The emphasis is on keeping you a safe driver.
Pennsylvania Auto Insurance law requires all auto insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates 55 and older of approved courses such as the Driver Safety Program. Policyholders should contact their carrier for more information about such discounts.
AARP Driver Safety Program is taught by older volunteers trained by AARP.
The course will be offered on the following dates/times:
– Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May, 1, 2007 from 1-5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, DRMC East, Maple Avenue, DuBois.
– Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 1-5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, DRMC East, Maple Avenue, DuBois.
Participants must attend both days to become certified. There is a fee of $10.00 per person check or money order should be made payable to AARP. Reservations are required since class size is limited.
