FLINTON—-With a balanced scoring attack the Curwensville Golden Tide stopped Glendale Friday night 73-49 for their fourth straight victory. The Tide finish Moshannon Valley League play with a 6-2 mark and on the year now stand at 14-9.
The second game of the girls/boys doubleheader at Glendale High School followed the same script as the first game. A close first half. Then a second half blow out on senior night for the Vikings under coach Greg Mazenko.
The Tide took a hard fought 17-13 lead after one and made it 34-29 at the break. Curwensville and Glendale never showed that the winter storm layoff had much of an effect on either team as they raced up and down the Vikings hardwood matching basket for basket with the lead changing hands several times before the half-time buzzer.
Then came blowout time in the third and fourth periods as the Tide, under Matt Wassil, outscored the Vikings 39-20 to pick up the victory. All accomplished by having four Golden Tide in double figures. Philip Michaels led the assault with 18, followed by Brandon McDonald and Joey Palmer dropping in 12 each and Shawn Sopic with 10. Glendale was paced with 15 from Sam Yingling and 12 from Ethan Hullihen. The Tide had nine players score while the Vikings had eight as the ten starters all found the net.
Glendale is now 1-6 in Moshannon Valley League play and now stands at 5-17 on the year.
Curwensville travels to Cameron County on Wednesday night for a first round game in the District 9 A tournament.
