CLEARFIELD – A storm headed for Clearfield County and the rest of Central Pennsylvania will result in the first widespread winter storm for most of the region this season. Snowfall totals of 15-20inches are likely across the northern mountains of Pennsylvania with around 2 feet locally by the end of late Wednesday.
A period of icy mix of winter precipitation is likely across southern PA tonight. Total snowfall across the far south and Lower Susquehanna Valley should be in the 6- to 9-inch range, but heavier amounts could occur if less sleet or freezing rain falls.
A heavy snow warning remains in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday morning to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Low pressure over the lower Mississippi Valley will head northeast by Tuesday night. This area of low pressure will intensify rapidly along the Mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday morning.
Snow will spread northeast this morning and last into Wednesday morning. Snow accumulation of 3-to-6 inches will occur by dusk.
Practically all of the precipitation will fall as snow, and there could even by some lightening and thunder accompanying the heavy snow at times during the height the storm Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The storm should taper off to scattered showers during the day on Wednesday.
A total snowfall of 16-22 inches is likely with some areas of North Central Pennsylvania east of Coudersport possibly seeing in excess of 2 feet.
A heavy snow warning means a significant amount of snow is forecast that will make travel dangerous.
