WEST DECATUR – In less than two months, local, county and state leaders will meet with the Department of Environmental Protection to discuss an application for a landfill in Boggs Township.
The Local Municipality Involvement Process meeting for the proposed Camp Hope Run Landfill has been scheduled for Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church in West Decatur.
While the meeting is closed to the public, many representatives, along with members of the media, have been invited to attend.
Those who have been invited include:
— officials of the host municipality (Boggs Township supervisors)
— officials of the host county (Clearfield County commissioners)
— the municipalities adjacent to the host municipality (Wallaceton Borough; Lawrence, Decatur, Woodward, Knox, Bradford, Graham and Morris townships)
— the municipalities located within one mile of the permitted or proposed area
— other municipalities that demonstrate that they may be adversely impacted by the proposed project
— municipalities along the approach routes
— Pennsylvania legislators whose legislative district includes the host municipality and host county (state Reps. Dan Surra, D-75 of Kersey, and Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale; and state Sens. John Wozniak, D, Joseph Scarnati, D, and Donald White, R)
— one or two selected representatives of people from the local municipalities that have an interest in the application (Concerned Citizens Fighting the Boggs Township Dump or others)
A letter sent from the DEP to Boggs Township outlined what would happen during that meeting.
First, DEP will provide information on regulations, policies and the permitting process, and PA Waste LLC, the company proposing the landfill, will discuss the project. After that, local municipalities and the county can outline concerns with the project and the permitting process.
“It is not the purpose of this meeting to respond to issues and concerns, but there will be notice taken of any comment,” the letter, signed by James E. Miller, environmental program manager for DEP, said.
“It is anticipated that only the local municipalities, the host county and the department will actively participate in this meeting. Other parties have been invited to keep them informed as to the continuing development of this project.”
After the DEP begins their review of the application, at least one opportunity will be provided for the public to to comment more extensively.
