CLEARFIELD – Jodi Brennan, director of the Clearfield County Planning Department and Solid Waste Authority and Sandy Fink-Barrett, Director of the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority have been discussing the possibility of having a grant writer on hand for not only their organizations, but municipalities and organizations in the county as well.
Brennan presented the idea to the CCRTA on Wednesday. Brennan informed the board that both she and Fink-Barrett receive a large number of grant writing requests, but they do not have enough time to help everyone.
“We get a lot these requests,” said Brennan.
Brennan said the yearly salary of the proposed grant writer would be $30,000 a year. Brennan noted, however, that there was a grant to help offset the cost. The grant is a 50/50 Shared Municipalities Services Grant. Brennan said a request was made to the Clearfield County Commissioners for $10,000 as part of the matching grant. The CCRTA was asked to contribute $5,000.
CCRTA board member Rita Hahn said the $5,000 was considered in the 2007 CCRTA budget. The board then approved putting the money toward the $15,000 match.
Wilson Fisher, CCRTA vice-chairman, asked if there was anyone Brennan or Fink-Barrett had in mind for the position. Brennan said not currently.
“It would be nice to have home-grown talent,” said Fisher.
Mark McCracken, CCRTA board member and Clearfield County Commissioner chairman, said the commissioners are looking at the 2007 general fund, and that there is a proposal on the table for the project.
