CLEARFIELD – When an emergency arises, such as a fire, it is important to know that those who can help are just a telephone call away.
But, making the same call for a false incident can have major consequences.
Clearfield Fire Department Chief John Williams said that on Friday at approximately 3:10 p.m., a juvenile phoned the central station at 108 E. Cherry St. to report a building fire with someone trapped inside.
The firefighter who answered the telephone at the station was attempting to find out where the fire was when the caller began to laugh and shout obscenities at the firefighter. Williams said the call was not able to be traced because it was made from a cell phone.
Clearfield Borough Police told Williams that it is illegal to make prank fire calls and similar calls for fake emergencies.
Anyone with information on this incident should contact police at 765-7819.
