CLEARFIELD – On Aug. 14, a frightened 9-year-old Casey Wilsoncroft dialed 9-1-1 after his cousin was involved in an off-road motorcycle accident in Lawrence Township. Dave McClure, a 9-1-1 public safety telecommunicator, worked patiently with Casey to dispatch emergency responders and advise him of what to do. Mike Spencer, a volunteer with the Lawrence Township Fire Department, stayed with Casey for more than an hour after the accident to calm and console the boy.
Casey, McClure and Spencer will all be honored for their actions on Friday.
State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, the Clearfield County Commissioners and emergency management personnel will present commendations to all three.
Unfortunately, Casey’s story of heroism and knowing what to do when help was needed did not have a happy ending.
Casey’s cousin, 21-year-old Jenna Malone, did not survive the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Malone was a member of the U.S. Army stationed out of Fayeteville, N.C.
