Lt. Gov. Knoll Mourns Death of Ann Richards

PITTSBURGH (PRNewswire) – Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll Thursday issued the following statement on the passing of former Texas Governor Ann Richards:

“Not only were the ‘Eyes of Texas’ upon her, but the eyes and affection of an entire nation reached out to Ann Richards. This was an extraordinary woman who was unafraid to take on political challenges most women had been taught to avoid.

“Ann was a friend and colleague whom I admired up close; who showed us how to be compassionate for the underdog,” said Knoll. “She used her one-of-a-kind smile that reminded us all that our duty was to speak out for those who have no voice.

“By her charisma, she inspired many of us to try. By her guidance, she taught many of us to win.”
