CLEARFIELD – A man wanted by Ohio authorities was taken into custody Tuesday morning on Interstate 80 as police were investigating a multi-vehicle pileup on the roadway.
Norman E. Johnson, 32, of Cleveland, was arrested at 8:14 a.m. Tuesday as troopers from the state police barracks at Clearfield were investigating a traffic accident on Interstate 80 near mile marker 116 in Lawrence Township.
The accident happened at about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, causing the eastbound lanes of the highway to be closed for several hours.
Johnson was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s office in Cleveland. A records check revealed that Johnson had an open case in that county for forgery and other counts. Johnson has criminal cases dating to 1994, and he has served time for attempted assault on a police officer, drug possession and robbery counts.
Johnson was taken into custody and charged as a fugitive from justice Tuesday. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland and incarcerated in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Upon conclusion of the extradition hearing, Johnson will be turned over to Ohio authorities.
