CLEARFIELD – Clearfield attorney Steve Jarrett first became widely known in Clearfield County and even beyond when he went to court to challenge the sale of certain items at the Clearfield County Fair.
He will find himself in the courtroom again Wednesday, but this time, in a different position — as a defendant instead of a defender.
Jarrett allegedly carried a handgun without a license and threatened a woman with it on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.
He is set to make his first court appearance on those charges, that after being in the news for filing a motion to stop the sale of Nazi and Ku Klux Klan items at the Clearfield County Fair earlier this month. Jarrett also chained himself to the Clearfield County Courthouse’s steps in protest to the sale of the memorabilia.
Jarrett completed some housekeeping tasks Tuesday, though, withdrawing as counsel for two cases in Clearfield County Court. He will no longer represent Joshua Petrini or Timothy Ellis. Petrini was arrested with nearly 50 other people in DuBois two months ago as part of a two-day drug sweep. Ellis was facing unrelated simple assault and harassment charges.
No reason was given for his withdrawal.
