COUDERSPORT — The Clearfield Babe Ruth League 15-Year-Old All-Stars opened the District 8 Tournament with a 5-4 squeaker over West End of Williamsport Friday afternoon at Coudersport Area Recreation Park.
The winners jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning on Matt Shiner\’s run-scoring single and Tanner St. Clair\’s sacrifice fly.
Cory Bookhamer singled home a run to snap a 2-2 tie in the second, but West End answered again in the third to make it 3-3.
In the fourth, Parker Herrington doubled and scored on a wild pitch to put Clearfield in front to stay. What proved to be the winning run came in the fifth on a walk to Michael Moyer, a single by St. Clair and a pair of fielder\’s choice grounders, with Herrington getting the RBI.
Moyer pitched into the sixth inning to earn the win. He gave up six hits, five walks and all four runs, two of them earned. He struck out two.
Aaron Sayers relieved with one out and recorded the save, surrendering three hits and striking out one.
Bookhamer was the only player with two hits. Sayers, Moyer and Derek Danver also had singles.
Clearfield plays State College, a 6-3 winner over host Potter-McKean, Saturday morning at 11. The winner advances to the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m. while the loser will have to play again Saturday at 5 p.m. against the survivor of the West End-Potter-McKean game.
