CLEARFIELD – Summer is upon us, and as the days get warmer, some rules seem to slip from the mind a bit more easily.
At Clearfield Borough’s town meeting Tuesday, some information was available about grass and weeds, yard waste and trash pickup.
First to the grass and weeds: Recent warm weather has made lawns and weeds grow, well, like bad weeds. However, remember that the borough has an ordinance against high weeds and grasses. All grass and weeds must be kept trimmed and not allowed to grow to a length of more than 6 inches.
Now to yard waste: With summer storms blowing through the area and time for other outside work, yard waste — branches, grass clippings and the like — are piling up. Before shipping that material off to a landfill, remember that Clearfield Borough provides for curbside pickup of lawn and yard waste.
The material must be in biodegradable bags or boxes, and crews will pick up branches that are no more than 3 inches around and bundled so that nothing is longer than 4 feet. The bundle must not weigh more than 40 pounds.
Pickup will be done per this schedule:
1st Ward – first Monday of the month
2nd Ward – second Monday of the month
3rd Ward – third Monday of the month
4th Ward – fourth Monday of the month
If Monday is a holiday, then yard waste will be picked up on the next day.
The borough asks that anything to be picked up is placed outside at the curbe after 7 p.m. on the night before the scheduled collection.
In addition to the curbside pickup, borough property owners can also take yard waste to the borough’s compost site with permission from the borough street commissioner.
Finally, getting the trash out:
Clearfield Borough has a solid waste ordinance that prohibits household rubbish and garbage from being placed outside before 7 p.m. on the night before collection is to be made. In addition, all empty containers must be removed from the curb promptly after the collection is made.
