CLEARFIELD – A motion is set to go before Clearfield Borough Council next week that could permanently quiet the fire whistles in two wards.
John Williams, borough fire chief, said Thursday at the council’s work session that he has received requests from residents in both Second Ward and Third Ward to turn off the “house sirens.”
Most firefighters have pagers that alert them to when there is an emergency, and for the most part, the house siren system is antiquated.
Williams also noted that Engine 4 will be moved to Station No. 1 in the near future on a trial basis. Engine 4 was to be used for some calls, such as a recent one when the equipment was needed in LeContes Mills.
Williams said that on that call, the engine went as it was supposed to, although about 20 volunteers showed up at Station No. 1 for the call.
Borough council meets June 15 at 7 p.m.
